It’s been close to four months and VMware Canada Inc. is still looking to fill the vacancy left by Jas Sahota, the former channel chief of the subsidiary.
According to a source at the company, the timeline to fill that role is still to be determined. However, VMware Canada did manage to fill a portion of Sahota’s duties by promoting Bruce Trotman to the role of national account manager – distribution. Distribution will be Trotman’s sole focus, while Sahota had it as one of four main duties. The others were solution providers, OEM partners and alliances.
Trotman joined VMware Canada in late 2011 as a territory account manager. He got his start in the channel with Ingram Micro Canada in 2005. In 2010 Trotman, was handling the VMware account at Ingram Micro.
Meanwhile, Sahota landed on his feet quite well. He was named the sales manager for provincial and public sector at SAS Canada earlier this month. Sahota’s departure at VMware Canada was preceded by Grant Aitken, the former country manager of VMware and CDN’s Top Newsmaker for 2008.
Channel hires maybe sped up in Canada now since VMware appointed Dave O’Callaghan senior vice-president of global channels and alliances on May 20th. In this role, O’Callaghan gains the title of company channel chief. He has experience developing many types of routes-to-market and working with all types of channel partners such as solution providers, service providers, distributors, OEMs, system integrators and outsourcers, and independent software vendors (ISVs).
During his 30-year career, O’Callaghan has held several senior sales and indirect sales roles at Cisco Systems, Hitachi Data Systems and Memorex Telex.
In 2011, O’Callaghan founded and led his own consulting firm specializing in go-to-market strategies for high-tech manufacturers, distributors and solution providers. Prior to this, O’Callaghan served as vice-president of worldwide commercial sales at Cisco, where he led sales, strategy and programs of the mid-market and SMB segments. During his 12 years at Cisco, O’Callaghan also held vice-president roles in worldwide distribution and regional sales.
Prior to Cisco, O’Callaghan spent 11 years as vice president of the Western region for Hitachi Data Systems.
