Websense Canada executive named newsmaker for 2007

This past year has been a busy and eventful one for global Web and desktop security software provider, Websense Inc. as the company continued to expand its growth and brand within the Canadian landscape.

Fiaaz Walji, country manager for Websense in Canada, says just within the past year alone, new business has grown by more than two and a half times at a rate of 150 per cent over last year.

“From a security perspective, Websense is now on the map in Canada,” Walji said. “We went from having zero reps in Canada to building up a team of six in-field reps in the country. Our goal is to gauge the business and grow from there.”

What may have helped push Websense further into the market place and contributed to the company’s overall growth, are the two acquisitions it made over the course of this year.

In January, Websense acquired PortAuthority Technologies Inc. which helped the company segue into the information leak prevention (ILP) space. And most recently, Websense completed its acquisition of SurfControl, which enabled the company to expand its solution of offerings to also include e-mail and on-demand filtering.

“From a company perspective, we went from being known as a Web filtering company to now being known as a real security company,” Walji said. “We’ve rounded out our portfolio to increase the technology that also streams from large enterprises all the way down to small businesses.”

In addition to expanding the Websense brand in Canada, Walji also said educating customers in this space is equally as important when it comes to the company’s overall market strategy.

“I’m really proud and honoured [to make the Top 25 Newsmakers List] because this nomination is really a reflection of the Websense team and the technology that we provide to our customers.”
