The new generation of the Surface tablet running Windows RT 8.1 pricing starts at $449. It will be available for pre-order Sept. 24 on MicrosoftStore.ca and at retailers such as Best Buy and Future Shop.
The Surface Pro 2 featuring Windows 8.1 starts at $899 and also is available for pre-order tomorrow. Both new tablets will be on retail store shelves Oct. 22.
Other improvements to the Surface include USB 3.0, an upgraded 5 megapixel camera, and the Surface 2 comes with Office pre-installed.
Both tablets will come with more storage options – 64 GB, 128 GB, 256 GB, and 512 GB with either 4 GB or 8 GB of RAM. The kickstand now has two different positions.
A new docking station for the Surface Pro 2 will allow you to charge your tablet in addition to a cell phone. You can also plug in an external hard drive and USB headset. It will sell for $199.99 and be available in early 2014.
The docking station, seen from rear, will include a Mini DisplayPort video output, three USB 2.0 ports and one USB 3.0 port, an Ethernet port, and 3.5mm audio in and out.
A new Bluetooth adaptor for the Surface Covers will allow users to control their tablet from a distance. It will retail at $59.99 and also be available for pre-order Sept. 24.
The Type Cover for Surface 2 now comes in a selection of hues: magenta, cyan, purple, and black. The keyboard is backlit and is the same dimensions as the first Surface keyboard. Its price will be $129.99.
The touch cover remains available in one colour, and also has backlit keys. It will sell for $119.99. All covers can be pre-ordered starting Sept. 24.
A new Power Cover is like a Type Cover with an extra battery for your tablet. It will cost $199.99.
