When Google Inc.’s parent company Alphabet said it was going to build a
smart city in Toronto’s Quay Side neighborhood, everyone was curious about what it might look like. It’s still in the early planning stages, but at our Technicity event co-hosted with the City of Toronto at the end of 2017, we sat down with Craig Nevill-Manning, head of engineering at Sidewalk Labs, to hear more about the vision.
Watch Nevill-Manning address the subjects of why Toronto is the best choice for this project, how the data created from smart technologies will be treated with privacy in mind, and how Sidewalk Labs plans to create buildings that “are more like software” with a modular and reconfigurable design.
