Colour has become an important aspect to technology purchases these days and Samsung has been one vendor who has put a lot of thought into it. Remember Samsung’s line of piano black printers? This holiday season, expect Samsung Canada to release a Galaxy S II 4G smartphone in what the company calls “Festive White”.
Paul Dayco, product specialist for Samsung Canada, said the Galaxy S II in Festive White is not available right now, but the plan is for a holiday season release. The new smartphone will be the thinnest on the market today at 8.49 millimeters, Dayco said. The new Galaxy device will also feature a 4.3 inch “Super-Amoled Plus” screen.
The Festive White device will be followed by the Galaxy S II X smartphone with a 4.5 “Super-Amoled” display. This device will have a 2 mega-pixel front camera and an 8 mega-pixel camera in the back, and Haptic Touch technology will enable users to feel that they have pressed a button. Dayco said users told Samsung they wanted to know they’d pressed a button.
This device will also be ready for making payments with Near Field Communications (NFC). NFC is a method for wireless payment transactions, data exchange, and other wireless connections between two devices in close proximity to each other. According to Dayco, NFC is used in Asia as a method of payment. In Europe, users use NFC-equipped smartphones as a subway pass and the company hopes that it becomes accepted in Canada as a system for making payments by smartphone.
Currently, service providers in Canada such as Bell, Rogers and Telus have implemented Zoompass, a form of mobile wallet. NFC is encrypted and users would have to store credit card information on their smartphones to make it work.
Recently, Google announced the Google Wallet, an Android application that will make use of NFC to make payments at stores. Research in Motion also released a BlackBerry Bold smartphone with NFC.
Because of this trend, Dayco said the Galaxy S II X will have faster download speed than previous models. This speed boost will also be for streaming content.
Samsung will also have updated Galaxy S Glide and Galaxy Tab 8.9 LTE devices for the upcoming holiday season.
The new Galaxy tablet will run the Android 3.2 Honeycomb OS and Samsung has added an overlay row with a set of easy to use apps. Dayco said the new Task Manager will be able to close apps running on your tablet, something end users were asking for.
There will also be a notification tab for setting sound levels, WiFi, GPS and other functions. Dayco said that his will remove at least three to four steps.
Finally, the new 8.6 millimeter-thin Galaxy Tab for the holiday shopping season will have the Polaris Office with full versions of Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
