The latest trend in laptops is custom designs. A company called NVous announced recently that as part of the configuration process for new laptops, you can choose a color, plus an existing design for the lid, or upload your own graphics, which they’ll paint on for you. If you send NVous your existing laptop, it will decorate it for $186.
Another company, called Smooth Creations, will do something similar, and it sells custom-designed desktops as well.
A third company, M-Tech, will custom decorate the outside of your laptop for $180 and both inside (surrounding the screen) and outside for $209. M-Tech leans toward corporate and university logos, sports teams — that sort of thing.
For you do-it-yourselfers, a company called Schtickers will send you laptop-lid-size stickers for custom decoration. You choose from among hundreds of designs on its Web site, enter the size, make and model of your laptop, and they’ll send you a sticker that fits perfectly. Most cost $20. You can also send photos or your own design, and it will make a sticker out of that for about $25.
