One of the latest notebooks to make it into the HP lineup of dv9600 Entertainment Notebooks is the 17-inch widescreen HP Pavilion dv9615ca notebook. Due to its generous screen size and high definition BrightView screen resolution of 1440 x 900 pixels, this notebook proves to be the ultimate home entertainment user’s best friend.
With support for the Intel Core 2 Duo T5250 Processor running at 1.50 GHz with 2MB of Level 2 cache, I found the notebook was able to support multiple programs and applications with ease. The 17-inch screen size makes playing games, watching movies and running several applications at the same time all the more easier due to its ample display size.
I found that the mobile remote control that comes with the notebook also helped to enhance my overall movie watching convenience and experience. With remote control buttons to control movie playback and volume, it meant I didn’t have to be sitting directly in front of or within arm’s reach of the notebook to change these settings.
For those who enjoy sitting close to their notebooks, there are also built-in touch-sensitive media launch buttons located just above the keyboard that are lit up with a backlight. The backlit keys make it easy to use even when in a low or no lighting environment. What’s neat about these buttons is that the volume control buttons are triggered by fingertip pressure and motions from left to right, to either decrease or increase the volume. The rest of the buttons are based on touch for playback and muting options.
In addition to a big screen, the notebook also features a full size keyboard, which makes typing convenient for the individual who is already used to typing on a keyboard of that size.
Camera fanatics will also be happy to know that the notebook also comes with a built-in web cam found just above the notebook’s display that can take photos and videos as well.
Given its size and dimensions of 28.50 cm (l) x 39.60 cm (w) and 4.18 cm (h), it’s no surprise that the notebook weighs 7.8 pounds, therefore making it difficult and awkward for users to take with them on the go. I strongly recommend users only try and use this notebook in the comfort of their own homes due to its large size and weight.
And even though my work could still be done and processed on this notebook, I would still much rather prefer to tote my own notebook around town with me, which is smaller in both its size and weight. When it comes to battery life, I found I was able to use the notebook for a good three hours at full-power before I was prompted to charge the battery.
The HP Pavilion dv9615ca notebook has a MSRP of $899 and also comes with a one-year limited hardware warranty with toll free North American support and a one-year free hardware technical support service, along with 30-days of free software support with a free 90-day software support with product registration based on the date of purchase.
