Acer America used the VMworld conference in San Francisco this week to mark its entry into the thin client market with the launch of the Acer Veriton N Series.
Designed for simplified manageability and energy-efficiency in a secure, space-saving form factor for virtual environments, Acer is aiming the Veriton N Series at small and medium businesses, call centres and customers in education, financial services, healthcare and government that want to tightly manage data while reducing overall costs.
“Our new thin client line will help organizations meet today’s reality of ever shrinking budgets by simplifying IT without compromising on business deliverables,” said Michael O’Beirne, Acer’s senior director, commercial product marketing, in a statement. “The Acer N Series are easy to configure, maintain and manage, while reducing the overall cost of ownership.”
Customers will have a choice of operating system – either Devon IT’s embedded, Linux-based thin client DeTOS 7.1, Windows Embedded Standard 7 and Windows 7/8. The thin clients also feature Devon IT Echo Management software, Microsoft RemoteFX 3D virtual adapter, Citrix HDX high-definition desktop virtualization and VMware View for desktop and application management.
Pricing will begin at $239. The Acer Veriton N2110G and Acer Veriton N2620G Series will be available through Acer’s resellers in Canada and the U.S. starting in October 2012, and the Veriton N2010G Series will be available in December 2012.
