A new global survey from CA Technologies released today found that digital transformation can boost business performance, but there is still a lot of growing pains.
The New York-based vendor released senior business executive study called Keeping Score: Why Digital Transformation Matters that revealed business adoption of agile, DevOps, API management and identity-centric security lifts the bottom line by up to 52 per cent.
The research also introduces the Digital Transformation Business Impact Scorecard (BIS), a global ranking of countries and industries across 14 key performance indicators (KPIs) critical for digital transformation success.
Canada did not fare well in the survey. In fact, it did not place at all in the rankings.
India topped the list at 79. The average score was 53. Of the 21 countries that placed on the list the Netherlands was last at 38.
The report read, with an average score of 63, organizations in the Americas report the greatest benefits from digital transformation. With 56, those in Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) score just above the global average, while the EMEA region lags slightly behind on 47. Taking the analysis further reveals an illuminating trend. The country-level scores show that enterprises in emerging economies are driving the greatest impact from their digital initiatives. The top four scoring nations after India are Thailand (71), Brazil (69), Indonesia (66) and Malaysia (64). This might be explained by lower levels of digital adoption in these markets in the first place. This would mean that each digital investment gives a business a greater competitive edge. These organizations are also likely to have fewer legacy systems to contend with.
The scorecard results also indicate that digital transformation is paying off with tangible benefits as respondents reported:
- 74 per cent report improvement in customer experience;
- 76 per cent report improvement in digital reach;
- 33 per cent increase in speed to market;
- 40 per cent increase in customer satisfaction; and
- 37 per cent increase in new business revenue
CA CTO Otto Berkes, said the ascendancy of customer experience today is driving technology into the heart of every company’s business model.
Berkes who penned a book called Digitally Remastered: Building Software into Your Business DNA added that the road to the future involves the creation of a modern software factory that thrives on an agile and efficient software development process that is constantly translating customer need into delivered experience.
From a vertical sector perspective, the top five industries were telecoms (59), banking & financial services (57), public sector (56), retail (54) and healthcare (53). The surprise performance of the public sector reconfirms the strong emphasis governments have been placing on leveraging the app economy and digital transformation to provide more jobs, increase tax revenue and provide better services to their citizens.
