Can Cisco benefit from Avaya/Nortel deal?
Network World
Cisco Subnet writes how Cisco’s business will be affected if the Avaya and Nortel deal goes through.
“Avaya gaining Nortel would give the company a double digit market share lead over Cisco in enterprise telephony. Currently, Avaya is No. 1 in the market with a share of 16 per cent to Cisco’s No. 2 position of 14 per cent. Nortel would add its 10 per cent share to Avaya, or anyone willing to outbid Avaya for the business. But there will be significant product overlap and rationalization issues to contend with, for Avaya or anyone else in IP telephony willing to play a hand in the Nortel enterprise stakes. This could open up an opportunity for Cisco and other vendors as customers assess their options.”
An On-ramp to Managed Services?
MSPmentor
Joe Panettieri warns why VARs and MSPs should do their research before choosing which possible Master MSP to partner with.
“I’ve seen far too many Master MSPs come-and-go in the past two years. Plus, there are a lot of “pretender” companies that claim to be Master MSPs in a weak attempt to cash in on buzzwords. Also, make sure the Master MSP is really licensed to host the software and services they offer. I’m aware of at least one alleged case where a Master MSP was offering hosted Kaseya software to peer VARs without the proper licenses in place. In the case of Virtual Administrator, I can confirm that they have a longstanding relationship with Kaseya.”
BlackBerry Desktop Manager coming to Mac in September
Engadget
Chris Ziegler writes that BlackBerry will be releasing a Desktop Manager that supports Mac OS 10.5.5 and above when it launches.
“The big sticking point right now is that RIM isn’t talking about an availability date, all we know is that it’ll happen some time in September — but when that date comes, you’ll have a suite that’s able to sync iTunes, add and remove apps, perform firmware updates, create backups and restore from them, and manage multiple BlackBerrys at the same time.”
