Ottawa software storage company HubStor recently rolled out continuous data protection and version control in an update to its cloud storage platform.
Continuous data protection supports the monitoring of certain file system directories. When it detects a new file, it captures them into HubStor. The company says this new capability collects data without needing to install new agents on a system.
“HubStor may add support for other methods based on demand,” HubStor said in a Dec. 5 press release.
The second layer to this update, version control, captures incremental changes of all files and builds out a version history for each one, maintaining point-in-time awareness in the cloud. In the case of recovery from a ransomware attack, this allows users to restore data sets to a stable period. Both updates are available today.
Brad Janes, vice-president of product management for HubStor, says the company’s momentum has been driven by organizations looking for easier ways to use cloud storage.
“The advantages our customers are achieving by switching to a software-based data management platform are significant in the areas of business agility and data protection, especially when it means moving away from old-style vendor contracts and hardware-centric products,” he said.
In a press release, HubStor, a Microsoft Gold partner, cited an IDC report that says the data-protection-as-a-service market segment will grow at a compound annual growth rate of 16.2 per cent over the next five years.
HubStor partners with a number of technology vendors and cloud solution providers, and also has its own partner program with three separate partner program levels.
