Wired
Priya Ganapati writes that Apple will be showcasing its new iPhone operating system, iPhone 3.0, next Tuesday at its Cupertino, Calif.-campus.
“While details are scanty, iPhone 3.0 could include features such as universal search, multimedia messaging and an updated user interface. The software preview event could also be a sign that an iPhone refresh is coming this summer. Version 2.0, the last big upgrade to the iPhone OS, was released in July last year, along with the new iPhone 3G. Among the features that users can expect with the new iPhone OS are multimedia messaging and tethering via Bluetooth and USB, according to the Boy Genius Report. Universal search and a redesigned user interface are also possible, says Piper Jaffray’s Munster.”
Microsoft gives discounts on software licenses
ZD Net
Colin Barker writes that according to Microsoft’s Incentives Web site, companies can sign up for discounts on SQL Server, SharePoint, other Microsoft software, or two bundles of client-access licences.
“Microsoft has cut the price of leasing software by as much as 25 per cent. One special promotion is ‘Simplify and Save’, which offers savings of 15 per cent for those who consolidate at least two existing license agreements into an Open Value agreement. Microsoft said the discount will run for the entire length of a three-year license deal. According to one analyst, when it comes to special offers, Microsoft does not tell enough people about them. ‘This is good news for users but Microsoft should be shouting about offers like this,’ said Tony Lock, analyst with Freeform Dynamics.”
