Looking to help organizations deal with the nearly 19 billion new connected devices (and corresponding traffic increase) its research shows businesses will have to deal with by 2016, networking vendor Cisco Systems (NASDAQ: CSCO) has launched its Unified Access Solution.
It’s a secure network infrastructure based on one policy source and management solution for the entire network, and it aims to provide a consistent set of network capabilities across wired, wireless and virtual privatenetwork networks, allowing them to behave as a single entity.
The solution includes the new Cisco Identity Service Engine 1.1.1 with Secure Group Access, which offers support for automated, role-based access control enforcement across wired and wireless networks and a self-provisioning portal that allows users to complete onboarding and ongoing management of their devices through a simplified self-registration workflow.
Also new is Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2, which unifies wireless, wired, campus and branch network infrastructure into a single system, allowing network operators to design, deploy, operate, report and administer network operations with one integrated workflow. Additionally, Enhanced Application Visibility and Control allows for visualization of application flow data collected using performance features such as Flexible NetFlow, NBAR, MediaNet, Performance Agent, and SNMP, allowing network managers to proactively monitor, analyze, and troubleshoot application health and quantify end-to-end user experience.
“Cisco’s network vision is to help IT organizations drive business innovation by successfully harnessing market transitions such as cloud, BYOD and surge of data to ultimately deliver new connected experiences over any network,” said Sujai Hajela, vice-president and general manager of Cisco’s wireless networking group, in a statement. “With the introduction of Cisco Unified Access, we are realizing this vision with a simplified architectural approach based on one policy, one management and one network that can help IT organizationfocus less time on daily operations and more time on new innovative business services.”
