In an effort to boost its managed IT services portfolio, Dell has agreed to acquire desktop services management company Everdream.
Based in Fremont, California, Everdream offers on-demand software and managed services for desktop management. Dell agreed to acquire Everdream for an unspecified sum and the transaction is expected to close this quarter.
Everdream has a second facility in Charlotte, N.C.
The little known Everdream has developed on-demand desktop management software services claming to be low risk. They are built around a scalable SaaS platform model through a single, integrated management console. This console enables customers to manage mobile, distributed workforces via the Web in a 24/7 environment, according to the company.
Dell plans to integrate Everdream into its global services organization and expand the acquired company’s business, said David Frink, a Dell spokesman. As the transaction hasn’t closed yet, any speculation on layoffs in Everdream would be premature, Frink said.
In a keynote address at the Oracle OpenWorld conference in San Francisco, Dell CEO Michael Dell stressed the company’s efforts to simplify the management of IT systems by providing the capability to manage desktops remotely.
In October, the company announced On-Demand Desktop Streaming, a server-based platform that streams the OS, applications and data to diskless desktop clients over a Gigabit Ethernet network. In July, Dell acquired SilverBack, which provided on-demand support and maintenance software to manage IT services.
Dell, in a prepared statement, said the planned acquisition is a key component in the company’s strategy of enabling customers to Simplify IT. Everdream’s capabilities complement those provided by the recently acquired SilverBack Technologies, further enabling end-to-end remote management of customers’ IT environments. With this acquisition, Dell can now extend remote management of critical IT assets from servers, storage, and printers to desktops, notebooks and other end-user devices globally.
“The planned Everdream acquisition is a significant step in Dell’s next-generation service offerings and provides Dell an expanded presence in the rapidly growing SaaS-enabled managed services market,” said Steve Schuckenbrock, Dell senior vice president, again in a prepared statement. “Everdream has an extremely talented team that has developed industry leading technology enabling customers and partners to easily and affordably manage PCs from anywhere in the world.”
Everdream products will continue to be developed for and offered through channel partners, and will also serve as the foundation for future Dell service offerings.
