Dell Computer Corp. wants all its channel partners to celebrate its five year anniversary of the PartnerDirect program.
Round Rock, Tex.-based hardware vendor announced a special discount fund of $100 million that will be made available; with the individual discount amount based on partners’ spend in the past five years on Dell enterprise solutions. This discount applies to: solution providers selling more than $100 million in enterprise (server, storage, networking) solutions during the past five years.

Dell will also provide up to the limit of five per cent of the net quoted amount on Dell Enterprise products up to the specific amount.
The additional discount amount is based upon partner spend and is available December 5 to February 1st, which coinsides with the company’s 4th quarter end.
Mary Catherine Wilson, Dell director of channel marketing North America, partners have had a significant impact on the program and successes to date through their feedback and engagement. Dell wanted to celebrate five years in the channel by recognizing the great partnerships the company has built. The $100 million discount has been earmarked to say thank you.
Wilson added that channel partners should call up the partner account manager in their local area for more information.
To the surprise of many industry watchers and participants the long time direct vendor entered the channel approximately five years ago today. Well Dell made its committment to the channel, it turned the channel world upside down. Solution providers at the time told CDN that they would not have any interest in doing business with Dell. But as time passed solution providers did conduct business with Dell.
In PartnerDirect’s first month in existence, Dell had a measly 12 deals booked in its brand new deal registration program, which was going to be the key cog its any channel success. To give you a comparison of how far Dell has gone in the channel, last month that same deal registration program had 1,600 transactions booked.
“We are certainly still trying to win partner business everyday. That hasn’t changed from five years ago. It has gotten extremely easier; actually exponentially easier today than five years ago,” said Dell channel chief Greg Davis.
