Dell Mini Inspiron gets semi-official: due out in August

Danny Dumas writes about Dell’s new ultra-portable notebook, Mini Inspiron, which is to be released sometime in August.
“Dell’s 9-inch (8.9-inch?) ultra-portable has now got a name and a vague release date. Called the Mini Inspiron and due out sometime in August, Dell has been tight lipped about features, specs, and pricing. But if past relationships with Microsoft are any indication, the Mini will almost certainly be paired with XP and an Atom processor. Ubuntu may also be a possibility, especially given the trends we’ve spotted in the mini PC market as of late.”
Linux to outship Windows Mobile by 2013

James Sherwood shares Stuart Carlaw, vice-president of ABI Research’s forecast on Linux’s place with smartphones in the next five years.
“Stuart Carlaw, (vice-president of ABI Research) reckons that Linux will (be) feature(d) on 23 per cent of smartphones by 2013. He added that that share of the market will put the open source operating system in second place in the smartphone popularity stakes, putting it behind Symbian and ahead of Microsoft’s Windows Mobile worldwide. Carlaw’s latest forecast builds on his 2007 prediction that more than 127 m(illion) devices will be driven by Linux by 2012, up from just 8.1 m(illion) in 2007.”
