With the help of EPIC Information Solutions, the WorldSkills Competition taking place in Calgary this September, will have a comprehensive Network Operating Centre (NOC) solution running throughout the seven-day event.
The NOC was designed to provide a reliable and secure network for the annual competition, which is now in its 40th year.
Staff members from EPIC and MTS Allstream were involved in the “hot staged” NOC project. Cisco, HP, Fluke Networks, Draka, VM Ware, Microsoft and Autodesk were among the other companies that made contributions for the IT project.
“The system includes multiple layers of security and reliability methods,” Roger Dery, IT Manager for WorldSkills Calgary 2009 said.
The NOC will manage a range of IT equipment, including 1,100 monitors, 105 36-inch LCD displays, 900 desktops, 100 laptops, 200 personal printers, four enterprise printers, nine plotters, 450 mobile phones, and more.
About 900 competitors will be involved in the competition from around the world. They will compete in 45 different skills categories from September 1-7.
