Android users may like ice cream sandwiches, jelly beans and honeycombs, but they love the taste of gingerbread.
All three are unofficial names for different builds of Android and, according to data drawn from Google’s developer web site, Android 2.3 – also known as Gingerbread – is running on 50.8 per cent of Android devices.
According to a report in Network World, Ice Cream Sandwich is two years newer than Gingerbread and offers significant improvements, but it can be difficult for hardware manufacturers to allow users to upgrade, particularly handsets, as custom carrier add-ons must be tested for compatibility.
Google has several initiatives underway hoping to assist with this.
