The rumour coming into the HP Discover conference in Barcelona was that the vendor would not be planning any announcements because it was still dealing with its split.
That rumour was absolutely squashed by senior HP executives as the vendor made 10 announcements including new partnerships; one including Microsoft, big data, new products on security, storage, data centre, converged infrastructure, cloud and software-defined networking.
CDN already reported on the Superdome X expansion for channel partners and HP also changed its direction with its 3Par business line at HP Discover.
Here is a snapshot of the HP Discover announcements:
Partnerships
HP Enterprise Services has partnered with Microsoft to offer Office 365 and HP service delivery as one enterprise solution.
HP Enterprise Services for Office 365 will be a new offering that addresses enterprise clients by combining the capabilities of Office 365 with HP Enterprise Services. This solution includes value added features such as cloud, service accountability, managed service solutions, integrated support and expanded data centre location options.
Mike Nefkens, executive vice president, HP Enterprise Services, said teaming up with Microsoft will allow HP to offer enterprise services with Microsoft’s Office 365 suite, starting with Exchange Online running on HP servers in HP data centres.
HP also announced an expansion of their Alcatel-Lucent global alliance to help service providers build network-enabled, distributed cloud solutions. The partnership incorporates selected Alcatel-Lucent IP routing and optical products into HP’s existing routing and storage portfolios.
Antonio Neri, senior vice president and general manager, HP enterprise group, said the plan is to take each other’s flagship products to deliver a set of data centre and network solutions that reduce complexity, lower OPEX and boost agility.
Security
HP introduced a new version of its security information and event management (SIEM) solution.
Called HP ArcSight ESM, the new product can analyze billions of events per day and accelerate the time it takes to identify and prioritize security threats, according to HP. The new version of HP ArcSight ESM addresses big data by delivering analysis for threat detection, online storage capacity to 600 terabytes and search speeds by 1,000 times that of the previous release.
Mike Armistead, vice president and general manager, ArcSight, Enterprise Security Products, HP, said customers need a simple way to take big data and make it small data, to quickly identify threats, and to take intelligent action that will help protect their organization from potential disaster. ArcSight ESM enables organizations to accurately identify and triage these threats, helping to mitigate risk in real time and reduce the overall impact of an attack.
Big Data
HP unveiled a full range of new IT Operations Management solutions built around big data analytics. These solutions are designed to help organizations automate and optimize their applications and infrastructure technology.
The new HP solutions leverage HP Haven’s analytic assets, HP IDOL and HP Vertica, to connect to and understand business data, machine data, and unstructured human information.
Storage
HP released a new Intelligent Retention and Content Management solution that allows global organizations to manage data throughout its lifecycle.
The solution includes HP StoreAll, HP ControlPoint and HP Records Manager. HP ControlPoint delivers automated policy application, which eliminates manual and error-prone processes. HP Records Manager allows organizations to retain and manage business content in a fully compliant repository. Combined with HP StoreAll, these solutions can further boost storage efficiency, data accessibility and security, as well as its overall compliance state, according to HP.
Software-defined Networking
HP expanded its consulting and support services to further its strategy on the New Style of IT. The expansion will cover cloud, mobility and big data solutions along with a new consulting service specifically for software-defined infrastructure.
Jean Paul Wagner, senior vice president and general manager, Technology Services, HP, said IT organizations are at an intersection whereby they must keep top of mind day-to-day IT needs, yet continue to innovate with software-defined, hybrid and converged approaches for tomorrow’s infrastructure.
HP Technology Consulting Services offer an open, vendor-agnostic approach, but the company did not indicate how channel friendly this new development is. It will involve workshops on transformation for software-defined infrastructure (SDI), a readiness roadmap for SDI, and architecture and design service for SDI.
Cloud
HP made available HP Haven OnDemand. The company is calling this an important milestone in HP’s Big Data strategy.
HP Haven OnDemand runs on the HP Helion cloud and analyzes all forms of data, including business data, machine data, and unstructured, human information. It will be run as a Web service.
HP also announced that it will embed its Haven assets deeper into the HP Software application portfolio with new offerings that leverage big data analytics, governance and compliance, and information security.
Converged infrastructure
There were also new converged systems from HP on display at the Discover conference. The new HP OneView and HP ConvergedSystem portfolio addresses workloads, such as Infrastructure-as-a-Service (IaaS), cloud, mobility and big data.
Nariman Teymourian, senior vice president and GM, Converged Systems for HP, said conventional approaches to IT are not designed to deliver on the new business outcomes required to thrive and survive in today’s competitive landscape. These new systems offer architecture to enable business agility by creating pools of resources optimized to the workload requirements of business.
Data Centre
HP unveiled new enterprise servers and services including the Integrity Superdome X and NonStop X made specifically for mission-critical workloads in an x86 environment. These units will include 3PAR StoreServ systems featuring flat backup to HP StoreOnce.
The services include HP Datacenter Care and HP Consulting for Software-defined Infrastructure.
Neri added that the new style of IT requires organizations to have a technology infrastructure in place that drives innovation and business outcomes.
3PAR
Finally HP refreshed its portfolio of midrange and flash-optimized 3PAR StoreServ systems. These new products are designed to offer new workload-centric storage personas, including unified storage access as well as data protection for flat backup to HP StoreOnce.
By releasing new midrange and flash storage include 3PAR File Persona software and the HP 3PAR StoreServ 7440c Converged Flash Array, HP believes it can provide all-flash performance, unified storage agility, hybrid storage affordability and flat backup of 3PAR StoreServ snapshots to HP StoreOnce Backup that is fully orchestrated through HP OneView for VMware vCenter Server.
David Scott, senior vice president and general manager, Storage for HP, said enterprises today understand that complexity can be a major bottleneck to new business expansion and IT innovation.
