CDN has learned that after more than two decades of partnership, IBM Canada has severed its distribution ties with Tech Data Canada.
Rick Reid, president of Tech Data Canada has confirmed the news, stating that it was an economic decision.
“Several years ago Tech Data Canada decided to no longer support the IBM Canada Software offerings,” He told CDN in an email response. “With the recent sale of the IBM Client and X-Series lines to Lenovo, our focus has pivoted toward Lenovo and we mutually agreed that continuing the partnership at this time would not be economically prudent.”
However, Reid noted that the parent company, Tech Data Corporation, maintains a “prosperous” partnership with IBM in other parts of the world.
Chinese computer company Lenovo Group Ltd., entered the the now-$55.1 billion global server market back in September 2014 when it closed its deal to acquire IBM’s low-end x86 server unit. According to IDC, it currently sits at No 4 position in market share.
IBM did not respond to requests for comment at the time of publication.
