iCloud woes slowly rain down on iOS 5 beta 2 users
The VAR Guy
Dave Courbanou looks at problems with the latest iOS beta.
“Slow is the first word that comes to mind with the new process. Yes, it’s beta, yes, and yes, likely everyone is jumping on iCloud to perform the same exact restore process that I am, but it’s terribly disconcerting when a message from “Restore from iCloud” says, “12 hours remaining,” and after 15 minutes says, “16 hours remaining.” It’s all over Wi-Fi, so it’s conceivable that re-downloading up to 5GB of data might be slow, but not 16 hours slow.”
Forrester: Few business leaders understand cloud implications, benefits
ZDNet
Rachel King reports on a new study from Forrester.
“However, given how much hype there is being dedicated to cloud computing these days, it is worrisome that business execs and IT managers will either transfer over to the cloud too hastily or refuse to join due to possible ungrounded fears.”
Is this the tipping point for e-Books & libraries?
ReadWriteWeb
Audrey Watters looks at the future of e-books, as a recent study suggests that more than half of public American libraries are lending e-books.
“We’ve seen a lot of evidence for the increase in demand for e-books in the consumer sector, and it appears that finally, after some reluctance on the part of publishers, we may be seeing some move to help fulfill that same demand with library lending. One major win was the announcement earlier this year that Amazon would launch a lending library; another more recently was that OverDrive, a major e-book provider to libraries, would become platform agnostic and offer some titles DRM-free.”
