IPv6 New Year Predictions
Network World
Scott Hogg shares his IPv6 predictions for this year.
“More IPv6 services and IPv6-reachable content – It is easy to predict that more carriers will offer direct IPv6 services and more colocation and hosting companies will offer IPv6 services. Most of these services will be developed to help these companies stay competitive. We may see a changing of the guard when it comes to Tier 1 ISPs. If the service providers provide IPv6 services to the doorstep of the servers then we will see an increase in the amount of IPv6-enabled content on the Internet. This will when we will really see a dramatic rise in the IPv6 Internet traffic volume.”
More iPad 2 details emerge – tapered edges
Network World
Yoni Heisler recaps some recent Apple iPad 2 rumours.
“It was reported that the iPad 2 will sport a smaller bezel, include wide range speakers, and come with a flattened back – much like the most recent iteration of the iPod Touch. A video also emerged to show an iPad 2 case molding which suggests that the next-gen iPad will, in fact, be a tad bit smaller, come with rounded edges, and have a flattened back.”
Skype for iOS 4.0 now supports video calls
Network World
John Cox shares details about Skype for iOS 4.0.
“Skype’s iOS app for iPhone is avavilable now with video calling. The software vendor has a barebones, almost terse, blogpost about the 3.0 release. Download the 3.0 version from the App Store to an iOS 4.0 device and you can place video calls to other iOS 4 devices and to Skype-equipped PCs and Macs. The calls, unlike the current version of Apple’s FaceTime video chat program, can run over 3G connections as well as Wi-Fi.”
