LG bringing the stylus back to smartphones

HardwareMobility

If BlackBerry can bring back the keyboard smartphone, then why can’t LG bring back the stylus?

The South Korean company announced today the Canadian availability of its latest stylus equipped smartphone, the LG Stylo 3 Plus. The mid-tier smartphone, which is dubbed the Stylus rather than the Stylo outside of North America, is the third generation of this stylus powered device.

The big draw of the Stylo 3 Plus will be the often mentioned stylus pen. It will allow users to take notes, draw, and mark up documents on their smartphone device with a new 1.88 mm diameter fiber-tip stylus. It is designed to provide the feedback and feel of using an actual pen.

The guts of the device are fairly generic: it runs Android 7.0, it’s packed with 5 MP front and 13 MP rear cameras, and has decent battery life with a 3,200 mAh removable battery. However, with no Gorilla Glass or IP certification of any kind, you’ll definitely want to have a case with this device. You can check out the full tech specs below.

The software behind the upgraded stylus, is Pen Pop 2.0, which includes a fingerprint scanner, and features such as Pen Keeper and Screen-off Memo. This allows for users to essentially use the device as a notepad, displaying notes written on the device even if the screen is off.

The LG Stylo 3 Plus has begun to roll out in Canada as of today, June 2., at these select carriers: Bell, Eastlink, Freedom Mobile, Koodo Mobile, Bell MTS, SaskTel, Telus, Videotron, and Virgin Mobile, as well as at WOW! mobile boutiques in a mall near you. Price will vary depending on the carrier.
