The fees demanded by the manufacturers for shipping and repairs for out-of-warranty sets (and even in some cases in-warranty sets) are stunning. Linksys names lives for now

Wolfgang Hansson comments on John Chambers keynote saying eventually Linksys will be named Cisco.
“My guess is that what we are seeing here is a case of someone in the marketing department going, excuse me but Linksys has a reputation built over years (good or bad) and at least consumers recognize the name. Cisco is a big name in geeky circles and enterprise, but I doubt the average consumer at Best Buy has heard of Cisco.”

Fortune’s the browser blog analyses all things in the high tech world.
“What’s not entirely clear, of course, is how these valuations are being determined. Mediabistro, with less than half the traffic, went for more than twice the price of TreeHugger.com, though the former has an established classifieds marketplace and event production business to go with its blogs. Presumably, Mediabistro, which launched in 1996, has greater revenues and is profitable, though financials for both sites are unknown.”
