NetApp doubles profits ahead of Fujitsu love-in

Chris Mellor recaps NetApp’s second quarter results for its fiscal 2010 calendar year.
“Revenues were $910 million, essentially flat being down just $1.6 million on the year-ago quarter, and up nine per cent sequentially, but net income of $96 million was 123 per cent up on the equivalent fiscal 2009 quarter’s $43 million. NetApp CEO and president Tom Georgens talked of ‘record gross margins, record revenue from our SAN products, and overall revenue that exceeded our expectations.’”
Microsoft Still Chasing the Competition with IE9

Scott Gilbertson writes about some of the potential shortcomings of Microsoft’s IE9.
“Microsoft needs to hit a home run with IE9 or the IE franchise is going to go the way of Geocities. Unfortunately, based on what Microsoft has shown so far, IE9 looks to be base hit at best. Certainly IE 9 will be good news on several fronts, notably the speed improvements and the increased CSS 3 support, but once again IE is catching up, not leading the way as it once did. The typical rebuttal to IE’s shortcomings is that it doesn’t matter – IE still maintains a dominant market share, and will continue to do so since it ships alongside Windows on new computers. It’s true that IE controls a majority share of the web. Microsoft got that majority because it bested the competition. Keep in mind that IE’s majority share used to much, much larger, and it continues to slip with every passing month.”
Microsoft Outlook To Become More LinkedIn

“LinkedIn and Microsoft have partnered to offer an add-on that integrates much of your LinkedIn contact information with your Outlook contacts. The add-on to Outlook will provide professional and social context to any Outlook users everyday e-mail experience. When you received an e-mail from a contact who happens to be a member of LinkedIn, Outlook will show a collapsible pane that will show information on what the contact’s latest activity is on LinkedIn.”
