Microsoft updated SkyDrive with a new Web design and more refined SkyDrive apps for PCs, Macs and the Android platform.
Microsoft’s Chris Jones said in a blog post that while there’s always more to do to improve the product, these updates bring SkyDrive out of preview and ready for a billion users – in time for the upcoming releases of Windows 8, the new Outlook.com, and the new Office.Over the past months, Microsoft shared an approach to building versatile personal cloud storage that can scale to a billion people, according to two Microsoft Skydrive product managers.
The new SkyDrive.com will feature a modern design for desktop and tablet browsers with instant search, contextual toolbar, thumbnail multi-select, drag-and-drop organization, and HTML5 sorting.
Another feature of the new SkyDrive for Windows and OS X are faster upload speeds.
The SkyDrive for Android app enables users to access, upload and share from Android phones.
For developers, apps have been built using SkyDrive API that can now store or access any type of file in a person’s SkyDrive, plus there’s a new file picker API for Web sites.
