Owen Thomas clarifies the latest Microsoft and Yahoo acquisition news.
“Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer, after he and his underlings spent months saying they’d moved on from the notion of buying Yahoo, says that a deal still makes ‘economic sense.’ A Microsoft spokesperson (said): ‘Our position hasn’t changed. Microsoft has no interest in acquiring Yahoo; there are no discussions between the companies.’”

“Every time you connect at a hotspot, you’re asking for trouble. hotspots are open networks that don’t use encryption, which invites hacking and snooping. In addition, when you’re on a hotspot you’re connected to the same network as your fellow hotspot users, they can potentially weasel their way onto your PC and inflict damage.”
Vista SP2 beta could land within next four weeks

Kelly Fiveash offers some more info on Microsoft’s Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2), which is due out soon.
“Microsoft is readying Vista Service Pack 2 (SP2) and will hand it over to beta testers within the next month. Windows Search 4 will reportedly be included in Vista SP2. Bluetooth wireless and VIA 64-bit CPU support will also be crammed into the release that will come with additional application compatibility updates.”
