Mitel is upgrading their latest class of business phones to include mobile integration, with the new 6900 series of enterprise-class business phones, is available now.
The 6900 series comes equipped with automatic handoff from smartphone to desk phone and back, shared access to contacts across both devices, WiFi connectivity that untethers the desk phone, and the ability to charge mobile devices directly from the desk phone. The key feature being the mobile integration, which Mitel touts as “one-touch”.
“This idea of being able to do things seamlessly and quickly across multiple devices frequently in parallel, where you are switching devices mid-communication, is really fundamental to both our strategy and vision as to where the world is going as we move forward,” said Bob Agnes, president and EVP of Mitel’s enterprise division, in an interview with CDN. “This new 6900 phone line is really a key part of that.”
In order to accomplish this, users can download the MiCollab mobile application. The app makes it look like your smartphone is an extension of, and behave exactly like, your desk phone. “This phone is in a lot of ways transformational. It brings a number of features to market that really make it easier for everyone to work, and it blurs what we know as the workspace. It makes the transition from your desk to your car or the outside world much easier,” Agnes said.
There are three versions in the 6900 series, the 6920, 6930, and 6940. The 6920, the basic build, offers a 3.5 inch colour display, 18 programmable keys, and mobile device integration through a USB dongle. The 6930 bumps up the screen to a 4.7 inch colour display, 72 programmable keys, and complete mobile device integration. The 6940 is the heavy hitter with a seven inch touchscreen colour display, embedded bluetooth, 96 programmable keys, and mobile device integration.
Mitel recently announced World Cloud, its new global cloud communication platform. The 6900 series doesn’t initially support that cloud platform, but Mitel plans to bring that support in early 2017.
