Why you should diversify your career
Network World
Andrew Mikols explains the importance of expanding on one’s career skillsets.
“I’m simply trying to say that as good as Microsoft’s technology is, it doesn’t meet every company’s need all of the time. There is a big need in corporate America for technical people who are diversified. You can definitely enhance your career by learning Microsoft as well as non-Microsoft technology.”
Storage, recession and you
The Register
Chris Mellor puts the recent economic recession into perspective and relays how it will affect the storage market.
“A consumer purchase slowdown will hit the storage market just like every other part of the economy. Sectors that may have a sunny outlook though are the health market – sickness and injury rates don’t fall in a recession – and storage for products that enhance the stay-at-home music and film experience as consumers go out less. The public sector may also take several months before it gets its budgets cut. In a market that is going to be characterised by business reluctance to spend, storage vendors have to show rock solid cost-savings from purchase of their equipment. Giving customers a competitive advantage or increasing business agility won’t cut it.”
Always-On notebook cases are both X-Ray friendly and idiot approved
Wired
Charlie Sorrel explains the concept behind a new neoprene sleeve product offering from Solo, designed for notebooks.
“Solo now offers a product for your idiot friend, a neoprene sleeve which remains permanently attached to the computer, trapping all that heat inside, keeping the exhaust fans spinning and sucking battery power. There is, mercifully, a rear vent for the hot air, but also a cable-hole to further discourage removing the case. The 15.4-inch and 17-inch SOLO AlwaysOn CheckFast Sleeves are designed for the traveler, allowing the laptop to pass through security X-Rays whilst still in the sleeve.”
