Apple will launch a completely redesigned iMac family later this year, with anti-reflective displays.
That’s according to DigiTimes, who say G-Tech will supply Apple with the anti-reflective glass for its next-generation iMacs. This would be the first time Apple has made this type of display available for a desktop computer, currently only offering anti-reflective solutions as an optional addition to its MacBook ranges.
DigiTimes’ report says that G-Tech is increasing production of glass for displays from 1.8 million units per month to three million units in order to provide about 30 per cent of the glass for Apple’s iPads during 2012. DigiTimes goes on to say: “G-Tech is also expected to supply AR (anti-reflective) glass solutions for Apple’s all-in-one (AIO) PCs”.
Apple hasn’t had a major redesign of its desktop Mac range since October 2009, when it introduced the larger 21.5 and 27in aluminium models of iMac with edge-to-edge widescreen glass displays.
However, it is expected that Apple will overhaul all of its product lines before the end of 2012, including the iMac, MacBook Air and iPhone, having already launched a new iPad.
The future of the Mac Pro is in doubt, though, with users clamouring for hardware upgrades.
