Pay for your Tim Hortons double double with your BlackBerry

Mobility

No more fumbling for change in the morning when you’re buying your coffee and fritter at Tim Hortons, a long line of impatient people waiting their turn. At least if you have a BlackBerry.

Tim Hortons has teamed with BlackBerry to add mobile payments to the BlackBerry version of its Timmyme mobile app. Now Timmies customers using a BlackBerry 10 smartphone, including the Q5, Q10, Z10 and Z30, will be able to register a Tim Card on the TimmyMe mobile app, and then use near field communication (NFC) tap-to-pay technology to complete their order.

“We’re always looking to provide our Tim Hortons guests with the best overall customer experience, and mobile payment is one area that we feel can help streamline the average time spent at the order counter,” said David Clanachan, COO of Tim Hortons, in a statement. “These new innovations offer secure, quick and easy payment alternatives, allowing our guests more time enjoying their favourite food and beverages.”

The NFC solution will tie into Tim Hortons’ existing payment terminals, and future development plans include expanding the solution to Android 4.4 devices. A bar code-based solution is currently available for Android and iOS. It’s available at participating locations only.
