The province of British Columbia has created a contest open that’s open to software developers to create Web and mobile applications to spread awareness and initiate change in the environment.
The contest is known as “Apps4Climate Action” and coincides with the Climate Change Data Catalogue, which is a data warehouse that includes provincial climate change data on it. This catalogue providers software developers with a one-stop access point to more than 500 data sets to help support their applications.
Some of the contest’s sponsors include Microsoft Canada, SAP Canada, and Telus, to name a few.
The contest has more than $40,000 worth of cash and other prizes for five categories, which include, best mobile app, best Web app, people’s choice, best of B.C. and overall best app.
The deadline for submissions is July 15, 2010 and the public is open to voting for their favourite app for the People’s Choice award up until Aug. 20, 2010. The contest winners will be announced mid-September of this year.
