Orlando, Fla. — Psion Teklogix has announced a partnership with Identec Solutions, a manufacturer of wireless tracking and tracing products.
Under the partnership, Psion Teklogix will market Identec’s intelligent long-range RFID technology in conjunction with the Psion Teklogix’ Workabout Pro and 7535 rugged handheld computing devices. The new partnership will result in lower implementation costs for customers and enable them to maximize returns on their RFID investments due to an additional option for RFID technology, the companies said.
Designed for performance in a range of data collection needs, the rugged and durable Workabout Pro is a flexible, programmable and expandable portable data collection terminal. The 7535 is a rugged PC handheld computer designed to perform in a warehouse, manufacturing facility, yard, distribution centre or port.
Intelligent long-range (ILR) active RFID works at a span of up to approximately 100 meters or 300 feet, compared to passive RFID, which works at a span of only one to three meters. With its low power levels, it also helps users to conserve energy. Active long-range RFID technology provides industry-leading reliability and a lower total cost of ownership, and operates on a variety of standards and protocols in order to help users meet regional requirements.
Headquartered in Lustenau, Austria, Identec offers two different types of active tagging. True active tags enables users to work with RFID over greater distances, helping them to do their jobs faster and more securely. The call-response tags remain passive until requested to be active during the scanning process. This allows flexibility to customers in rugged environments, the companies said.
