RIM shares details on BlackBerry 10 and BES 10

CDN CURATED: BlackBerry maker will honour its enterprise roots and address consumerization of IT with BlackBerry Balance

Al Sacco of Network World recently sat down with Gregg Ostrowski, senior director of technical solutions at Research in Motion, to discuss RIM’s upcoming BlackBerry 10 product releases and specifically what it will mean for the enterprise:

The most significant feature in BlackBerry 10, from an enterprise perspective, is probably BlackBerry Balance, which lets corporations create two separate on-device “personas,” one for corporate data and one for personal information. BlackBerry Balance isn’t exactly new–we’ve know about Balance for more than a year–but the version of Balance in BlackBerry 10 has many new features and a polished interface.

RIM has its roots as a robust device for business users, and its inability to bring the same focus to the consumer side has cost the company as the consumerization of IT trend has blurred the line between consumer and corporate devices. Features like Balance aim to address that consumerization trend head-on, and could appeal to both RIM’s base in the IT department as well as smartphone users that look at Apple and Android devices with envy.
