Samsung Electronics said it will expand the ATIV brand to include all of its Windows based PCs.
The ATIV brand was used previously for Samsung’s Windows based convertible PC products. The South Korean-based manufacturer plans to unites all of Samsung’s Windows devices under one cohesive brand, while Galaxy stays for the Android platform.
Samsung said that the new product names under the ATIV brand is intended to provide the market with an easy way to understand the product segments across Samsung’s PC portfolio.
Mike Abary, senior vice president of consumer IT product marketing at Samsung, said that Samsung has been growing its PC brand for the past three years and expanded the ATIV brand introducing solutions such as SideSync that creates the necessary synergy between mobile and PC lines. These synergies enable Samsung to maintain momentum.
Current products scheduled to be rolled out under the ATIV name are:
- The ATIV Smart PC Pro tablet will be called ATIV Tab 7;
- The ATIV Smart PC tablet will be called the ATIV Tab 5;
- Series 7 All-in-One PC is now the ATIV One 7;
- Series 5 All-in-One PC is now the ATIV One 5;
- Series 3 All-In-One PC is now the ATIV One 3;
- The Series 9 notebook is now the ATIV Book 9;
- The Series 7 Chronos is now the ATIV Book 8;
- The Series 5 Chronos is now the ATIV Book 6;
- The Series 7 Ultra is now the ATIV Book 7;
- The Series 5 Ultra is now the ATIV Book5;
- The Series 5 510 is now the ATIV Book 4;
- The Series 3 370 is now the ATIV Book 4, there might be some confusion in the marketplace by named two different product the same; and
- The Series 3 300 will be called the ATIV Book 2.
With this move Samsung now has an integrated experience across smartphones, tablets and PCs because of the SideSync technology, the company said. SideSync enables users to switch from working on a PC to an Android-based Samsung smartphone by connecting the two devices through a USB cable. When connected, users can respond to a text on a mobile phone from their PC keyboard; view maps, photos and multimedia from the phone on to the PC screen; make edits to files on the phone through an ATIV PC. End users can even drag and drop files from one unit to another.
SideSync is compatible with all ATIV notebooks, laptops, tablets and All in One PCs with Windows 8 (32/64 bit), and currently supports Samsung Android-based devices. It will be pre-loaded as a desktop app on all Windows 8 ATIV models.
In addition to renaming its existing products, Samsung also released two ATIV Book models, ATIV Book 5 and ATIV Book 6.
The ATIV Book 5 is positioned by Samsung as its next generation ultrabook. It comes with 24GB of ExpressCache3, and a 14-inch touchscreen. It weighs just 4.19 pounds and measuring less than an inch thick.
Meanwhile, the Samsung ATIV Book 6 is also a touch-enabled laptop with Intel Core i7 processor and rich graphics with a 15.6-inch full HD touchscreen. It also sports RAMAccelerator technology which makes 8GB of RAM2 work up to 1.5 times harder than traditional memory.
Both the Samsung ATIV Book 5 and ATIV Book 6 come equipped with pre-installed SideSync technology and are currently available for pre-order starting at $899.99 and $1199.99, respectively.
