“Especially in the areas of enterprise communications, corporations and organizations…are in the midst of multi-year deployments and upgrades. Long-term and ‘relaxed’ projects obviously take time, but their slow speed can mean more accurate, thought-out results. Now, as budgets are tightened, and five to 10 year projections are indicating a need for significant cuts, projects are being accelerated to dangerous speeds. Time simply equals money: money and liquidity that organizations simply do not have.”
IDC: Q3 server sales were crap

“’The server market experienced significant deceleration in the third quarter with particular weakness in September,’ explained Matt Eastwood, group vice-president of enterprise platforms at IDC who helps put together the quarterly stats. ‘The slowdown impacted a wide range of traditional server technologies, with improved demand for blades and IBM System z notable exceptions.’”
Roadmap: Open source to take over mainstream IT

The predictions were made in the 2020 Floss Roadmap, produced for the Open World Forum event in Paris this week.”
