Hardware spending drives IT growth in 2010

Timothy Prickett Morgan writes about the state of the global IT spending market right now.
“The latest statistics coming out of market researcher IDC indicate that IT spending is on the rise this year and is continuing to strengthen, but don’t expect a gain that makes up for the losses during the recession. Global IT spending is now projected to rise by 3.8 per cent (in what is called constant currency) to $1.47trn; at current exchange rates for the US dollar, the growth is closer to 5.6 per cent. Last year, IT spending (in constant currency) fell by 4.2 per cent, which converted to a decline of 7.3 per cent in US dollars.”

Sarah Perez shares the details about Google’s upcoming operating system, Chrome.
“(Chrome is) a new OS that will, according to the search giant, arrive on netbook computers sometime later this year, is also going to offer a feature Google engineers have dubbed, unofficially, ‘Chromoting.’ What’s chromoting, you ask? It’s remotely accessing your PC applications via the browser. Or, in other words, it’s a remote desktop app for your new cloud computer.”
Mobile Apps to Hit $32 Billion in Five Years

Curt Hopkins shares some findings from Juniper Research about the mobile applications market.
Juniper Research asserts, in a study … that revenue from mobile applications will grow $22 billion in the next five years. ‘The combined revenues from apps funded by pay-per-download (PPD), value-added services (VAS, including freemium and subscription) and advertising is expected to rise from just under $10 billion in 2009 to $32 billion in 2015.’”
