Dell could win with enterprise-grade smartphone
Network World
Google Subnet includes Matt Hickey, of CNET’s thoughts on Dell entering the smartphone market.
“CNET’s Matt Hickey posits that Dell might be able to lure enterprise users by offering some kind of software link between its ubiquitous Dell enterprise servers and its new smartphone. He says the link would be similar to what RIM offers in its Blackberry Enterprise Server (BES), but it would offer: ‘more compatibility with the Dell ecosystem many businesses already have. And better package deals on hardware when you buy everything together.’”
Netbooks: A bit popular
Channel Register
Chris Mellor writes about the increasing popularity of netbooks.
“If you have a desktop or notebook computer and are aged between 25 and 55, there’s nearly a one in five chance you have already bought a netbook. According to a PriceGrabber survey, netbook users overwhelmingly own desktop PCs (91 per cent) and a notebook (87 per cent) and PriceGrabber’s report writers think this is because the three systems complement each other and are used for different things. They don’t mention the possibility of gadget-hungry geeks buying the latest stuff for the sake of it.”

Wired
Brian Chen notes that according to analysts and developers, Apple’s next iPhone upgrade will have an increased focus on gaming.
“That’s because the gaming market is an increasingly juicy segment of the mobile multimedia space – and it’s one that Apple’s phenomenally successful iPhone is well-positioned to dominate. ‘The iPhone and iPod Touch are becoming a major new handheld gaming platform, and if you look at the App Store and look at what’s doing well, that’s reflecting,” said Bart Decrem, CEO of Tapulous, developer of the popular Tap Tap Revenge iPhone game. “I would look forward to improvements in the device as a gaming platform both for the phone and iPod Touch.’”
