A six-month investment early on to understanding how customers can be greener via server consolidation and desktop virtualization, but also through new business processes and applications, has paid off for Xwave‘s Advanced Technology Solutions (ATS) group.
The Bell Aliant-owned solutions provider has developed a program that looks at its customers’ businesses across all layers of IT, not just infrastructure, to eke out green benefits and efficiencies. Xwave ATS provides its customers a number of strategic reports assess and execute a greener IT environment, but also to demonstrate how IT can drive areas of green efficiency in business practices, says Don Bryant, director of Xwave’s ATS consulting organization. Bryant points to how strategic use of IT has helped Xwave clients in emergency services to better manage their vehicle fleets, and optimize routes, to reduce fuel costs. Similarly, Xwave has worked with forest harvesting businesses to use IT to more strategically harvest lumber in real-time and harvest in a more environmentally-friendly manner.
