Acer, Toshiba and Sony push laptop displays to 18.4 inches

John Morris comments on desktop replacement notebooks now that Sony has come out with its new 18.4-inch AW series of laptops.
“The new 18.4-inch models fall somewhere in the middle. The chief selling points are the display’s 16:9 aspect ratio, and depending on the configuration, a true 1080p (1920×1080) resolution. As a result, Sony and others are pitching these for home theater, video editing, and digital photography.”

Dan Kimerling explains why more Generation Y computer users are turning away from Microsoft’s Outlook in favour of using social networking Web sites such as Facebook.

Facebook Mail is not without its problems, but the combination of Facebook Mail, Facebook Chat, and what is functionally an auto updating address book, makes Facebook into the new Outlook…for anyone of the millions of people who use Facebook as either their sole or their primary digital identity.”
