Smart home tech is a huge category at CES 2019 with thousands of new products being introduced to the market. Among them is Belkin and Phyn, both brands owned by Foxconn Interconnect Technology.
You can’t have a smart home if it’s not connected. And for that you need a router. LinkSys has this new Mesh WiFi router, the Max Stream Ac2200 Tri-band router. It acts as a base station and you can expand upon it by adding new nodes.
This router is available in February and it will retail for $279 Canadian, or $199 US.
Belkin is also adding to its line of WeMo smart switches.
There’s a new dimmer switch. And a new 3-way switch, so you can finally install a smart switch in the case that you have two switches that control one light.
The single pole switch is $39.99 USD and the three-way switch is $49.99 USD. These will be available in the spring or summer.
Now on to something a bit different. The Phyn Plus Smart Water Assistant plus Shutoff. It’s a connected device that you install on the main water pipe to your home. It detects leaks and can automatically shut off your water to prevent flooding.
It also monitors water usage and gives homeowners information about where they’re using the most water. You can control it with a smartphone app, or with Alexa.
This product is really intended for property management companies, or new home builders that are looking to outfit modern smart homes.
Right now it’s available in Canada, the U.S., and Europe.
*Correction: this article previously stated that Phyn is only available in Europe, however, it is also available in the U.S. and Canada. The article has been changed to reflect this update.*
