Winning the Gold Award for Best Enterprise is no easy task, but Sela Canada took a unique route. They tapped into an online community made up of thousands of mentally ill and addicted individuals. Their goal was to help improve the chances of recovery.
This Toronto-based solution provider developed “Phraser” — a mobile app that allows people to access a daily Creative Writing program. But this isn’t just any ordinary writing program: it is one that offers hope to hundreds of drug and alcohol addicts at St. Joseph’s Addiction and Mental Health Hospital in Hamilton.
So you may be thinking “How is this an Enterprise Solution”? Where is the ROI? Well consider this: In Canada, the costs associated to treating ill employees are astounding at just under $40 billion dollars. That’s $1,267 for every Canadian. There are more than 2,000 people who use “Phraser” and the app is changing the way addicts and alcoholics connect with themselves and each other, resulting in continued sobriety, restored lives and powerful voices never heard before.
The gold winner for Best Enterprise Solution is Sela Canada.

IT Weapons, a previous Solution Provider of the Year winner, started its project initially as a disaster recovery effort for a 100 year old Winnipeg-based agribusiness with 2,000 users, but it turned into a complete overhaul of it’s entire infrastructure. This story is a typical business transformation to the cloud tale of a mature business. By going to the cloud, the company consolidated more than 60 different networks and all of their applications became centralized.
