Burlington, Mass.-based Magnitude Software is acquiring data access and analytics solution provider Simba Technologies of Vancouver, B.C.
Simba is best known for developing the first standards based ODBC driver for Microsoft Windows all the way back in 1992. It was used first in Windows 3.1.
Today Simba focuses on solutions for relational databases along with data connectivity not just for Windows but also the Mac platform and Linux.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed by Magnitude, but the company has expertise in Enterprise Information Management and corporate performance management software solutions. The Simba acquisition will help Magnitude expand these two solutions areas along with master data management and data connectivity capabilities.
Lou Guercia, president of Magnitude told CDN, the Simba acquisition expands Magnitude’s direct-to-enterprise model and channel development initiatives with Simba’s double-digit-growth model via the ISV channel.
Since the early 1990’s, Simba has worked closely with leading software vendors, such as Microsoft, to enable universal access to the most widely deployed data sources through ODBC, the de facto database connectivity standard. Simba uses SimbaEngineX to build all of its drivers, and Simba’s ODBC, JDBC, and OLAP connectivity technology is also embedded in products from companies including Alteryx, Cloudera, Couchbase, Databricks, DataStax, Google, Hortonworks, MapR, Oracle, Qubole, SAP, Splunk, Tableau and Teradata.
“Now that same anywhere/anytime data access can be available direct to the enterprise via Magnitude’s existing go-to-market motions in what is an era of increasingly heterogeneous environments Cloud, SaaS and On-Premise,” Guercia said.
Chris Ney, Chairman & CEO of Magnitude, said this acquisition furthers the company’s strategic vision to enable enterprise-wide visibility and insights for corporate performance management.
“As data heterogeneity expands exponentially, so does the complexity of connectivity challenges that Simba can help solve, accelerating our ability to put data into the hands of business users. The experience and knowledge of the Simba team, combined with the capabilities to deliver connectivity to a wide variety of data sources, increase Magnitude Software’s growth trajectory in reporting, analytics, and data management within the information management market,” he said.
The plan now with Simba in the fold is to use its data access between front-end applications and back-end data sources, bridging the gap between innovative and non-conventional data sources to the universal industry standard.
Guercia added that by viewing the acquisition from the lens of the solution portfolio, the combined products and technologies deliver specialized solutions tailored to address data fragmentation within hybrid application environments (cloud and on premises). This includes the ability to deliver personalized operational business intelligence in support of financial operations, where this data is spread across enterprise ERP and Cloud/SaaS solutions. Further, native connectivity can be embedded into Magnitude’s existing offerings to harmonize business-critical master data, such as customer and product, in an enterprise data landscape growing exponentially in its fragmentation.
“This enables the Magnitude to deliver value to enterprises and ISVs alike,” he said.
The acquisition will allow native connectivity to be embedded into Magnitude’s offerings to harmonize business critical master data, such as customer and product, in an enterprise data landscape that is increasingly fragmented.
Amyn Rajan, CEO of Simba, said his company complements the existing Magnitude solutions, allowing for connectivity to more diverse applications and a wide array of data environments.
Besides Microsoft, Magnitude is a channel partner of Oracle, SAP, Tableau, IBM, Qlik, Informatica and IBI.
