The cloud backup and disaster recovery capabilities of Azure, Microsoft Corp.’s cloud computing platform and infrastructure will be enhanced with the company’s acquisition of business continuity vendor InMage.
The ability to backup, replicate and rapidly recover data and applications in the event of a systems failure remain a perennial top priority for CIOs. Microsoft intends to integrate into Azure InMage’s software which has the ability to continuously capture in real-time any data changes in order to provide users with a better cloud DR solution.
“This acquisition will accelerate our strategy to provide hybrid cloud business continuity solutions for any customer IT environment, be it Windows or Linux, physical or virtualized on Hyper-V, VMware or others,” wrote Takeshi Numoto, corporate vice-president, cloud and enterprise marketing, at Microsoft, in a recent blog. “This will make Azure the ideal destination for disaster recovery for virtually every enterprise server in the world.”

“As VMware customers explore their options to permanently migrate their applications to the cloud, this will also provide a great onramp,” he added.
InMage’s Scout technology will be integrated into the Azure Site Recovery service. The InMage flagship product will be available on appliances and as a cloud platform.
Azure Site Recovery used to be called Hyper-V Recovery Manager. It was built to become a cloud-based alternative to companies building their own remote disaster recovery sites.
The company announced its plan to enable data migration to Azure with Scout. Existing customers can continue to use the InMage products and services they trust and, moving forward, customers will acquire Scout through the Azure Site Rceover, said Numoto.
