Canada moves past 50 per cent mark in BYOD

Solution provider and MSP Avanadereleased the results from a global survey of nearly 600 C-level executives and IT decision-makers in 19 countries that show widespread use of consumer technologies in the enterprise.

 

One of the biggest statistics from this survey is that 54 per cent of Canadian companies (61 per cent globally) reported the majority of employees now use personal computing devices in the workplace.

As of last year, the BYOD trend was not gaining steam the way the market thought. For example, David MacDonald, CEO of leading solution provider Softchoice toldCDN late last year that he hasn’t seen any major BYOD deployments. “BYOD is talked about a lot but I have not run into any company that has a full BYOD policy. Cost is an issue, but over time they will figure out how to reduce that premium. What we are going to see is companies adopting from a broad spectrum to accommodate any device,” MacDonald said.

In the report, Avanade concluded that the most progressive companies are redesigning how work gets done are building entirely new business processes around the BYOD trend. Avanade calls this “Work Redesigned.” According to Avanade’s research: 69 per cent of Canadian companies (71 per cent globally) surveyed have changed at least one business process – including processes in IT management, sales and marketing, HR and customer services – in an effort to accommodate emerging work trends including the use of mobile and consumer technologies.

Notably, 42 per cent of Canadian companies (20 percent globally) have changed four or more business processes to capitalize on the rise of mobility and consumer technologies at work.

Business and IT executives are not only embracing these technologies, they’re enabling them and achieving measurable results including increased employee morale, enabling new product development and driving profitability.
