There’s a new hybrid cloud initiative on the block, and it’s being launched by Dimension Data and EMC.
Called the Catalyst Alliance, the aim is to target mid-sized enterprises with solutions developed and marketed jointly between the two organizations.
“Mid-enterprises have this disruptive imperative without the resources to get on it,” Kevin Leahy, group general manager at data centre solutions at Dimension Data told CDN. “They see that imperative without having that significant investment in building their private cloud making them most at risk of being disrupted.”
Solutions to be marketed include private cloud both on and off-premises, hybrid and public clouds with managed services in storage.
Two services make up key pillars of the alliance.
These are Private Cloud Enterprise Edition, which features Dimension Data’s Cloud Control software on Vblock systems. According to Leahy, the infrastructure is compatible with the company’s public cloud offering allowing customers to go from nothing to a hybrid environment within “90 days.”
Secondly, the service provider is also offering to manage any existing environments that a client may have as well as offer ViPR/SRM-based intelligent storage management where customers can dictate automated policies.
Other services Dimension Data is exploring include storage-as-a-service, VxRack based MCP, backup and disaster recovery-as-a-service, as well as federated private cloud, slated for 2016.
“Clients are very very early in their hybrid cloud journey,” Leahy said. “That’s a mammoth task. You need someone to bring the pieces together.”
