Supercom has been out of the public eye for a few years now. But this week they came back with a flurry.
The Markham, Ont.-based distributor signed three major brands for its reseller network.
The company announced the addition of AMD FirePro professional graphics solutions to its product portfolio along with a significant deal with Toshiba to become its official distributor and equally strategic arrangement with Fujitsu servers and storage products.
The key to AMD partnership plays to Supercom’s strength with Canadian system builders. These specialized channel partners now have access to an extensive lineup from which to build workstations on both Microsoft and Linux OS platforms.
But Supercom also believes that digital content creators, plus scientific, financial and CAD/CAM focused solution providers will be interested in the AMD Eyefinity multi-display and AMD CrossFireX Pro technologies.
As for Toshiba, Supercom was chosen by the hardware vendor to become the newest Toshiba Authorized Distributor in Canada. Edman Lau, director of products at Supercom, said Supercom is in a good position to distribute Toshiba’s full IT product range to small and medium VARs across Canada. Adding Toshiba to Supercom’s portfolio will open up more opportunities for resellers and enable us to offer a greater range and depth of products in both IT and CE categories.
Under the terms of the partnership, Supercom will have access to Toshiba’s entire IT and CE range, which includes notebooks, tablets, all-in-one computers, data projectors, high-definition television, DVD players, camcorders, storage and accessories across Canada.
Finally, the addition of Fujitsu Primergy servers and Eternus DX disk storage systems will augment Supercom’s lineup of tower servers, rack servers, blades, and storage systems. These products will give Supercom’s reseller network an opportunity to address burgeoning markets such as SMEs, branch offices and data centers.
Sindy Man, Supercom product manager for Fujitsu Primergy Servers, said that these servers provide a complete eco-system of consultancy, services, and logistics that helps enterprises operate more efficiently and drive down costs. Primenergy servers are known to be energy efficiency, virtualization features, performance benchmarks and intelligent, easy-to-use system management functionality.

Ingram Micro Inc. (NYSE: IM) this week made a significant move to bolster its digital signage solutions line with the addition of Scala Inc.
Scala is one of the best known digital signage software for dynamic digital displays developers out there. The company pioneered offerings for large and small installations and helped to launch electronic signage for narrowcasting.
Scala made a name for itself at first in retail but then in quick service restaurants with its digital menu boards. They later moved onto developing solutions for banking and healthcare.
Kevin Prewett, senior director, ProAV / Digital Signage for Ingram Micro, said digital signage is one of the fastest growing solutions categories within the technology sector and offers channel partners lucrative margins and the opportunity to establish recurring revenue streams through managed content and advertising.
Under the expanded distribution agreement, Ingram Micro’s ProAV / Digital Signage Business Unit (BU) in the U.S. will now market, sell and support Scala’s entire portfolio of digital signage and display solutions including Scala Designer, Scala Content Manager and Scala Quick Start products.
In support of this announcement, Ingram BU will discuss and demonstrate a number of innovative AV and digital signage trends and solutions, including Scala, at InfoComm2012 in Las Vegas, June 13-15, in booth #C5430.
