Why does a person have a notebook computer? At the end of the day it’s to get some kind of work done and the Lenovo Edge ThinkPad gives you all the tools necessary to accomplish these tasks in a stylish way.
The machine is ready for business of any kind. It’s packed with dual-core processors, Windows 7, GB Ethernet, 802.11bgn, WiFi, Bluetooth and WiMax connectivity. It’s in the thin and light category of notebooks and sports a 13-inch widescreen. It has a sensitive Webcam along with three USB ports and an HDMI connection.
The Edge is Lenovo’s best looking notebook and inevitably it will be compared to various notebooks by Apple Computer. In my opinion, this notebook is better than anything Apple has on the market because it has introduced functions that improve the way a users operates the machine. And, while your friends and colleagues may envy someone’s Mac Titanium notebook over your Edge, you will find the experience better and you might even finish faster and in more comfort (for your fingers) than the Mac, which the Edge is compared to.
The keyboard is extraordinary. The keys are well spaced out leading to fewer typos. And the design has been streamlined to better manage passwords along with a touchpad that can zoom, rotate and scroll. When it comes to battery life, you can’t beat Lenovo products. I’ve tested many over the years and the battery life is really second to none. The Edge just furthers Lenovo’s reputation as a leader in battery technology. The Edge gave me more than four hours of battery life on a consistent basis. What I mean by that is whenever I was on the road and was unable to plug it the machine had around four hours of juice each and every time. Four hours is more than enough power for my needs when I’m out of the office. The machine took a little over seven hours to drain. The one thing the Edge has an abundance of is mouse buttons. The machine carries a duplicate set of right and left mouse buttons. There is one set for the traditional multi-touch pad and another for the Red Eraser TrackPoint. One set is more than enough since the enable the same functions.
Style-wise the Edge comes in black with silver trim or in red with silver trim. The machine is light and can be easily held in one hand. It weighs 3.5 pounds.
The Edge has a very good price point for its feature set at around $650. There is no optical drive but that has become less of an issue since the onset of netbooks.
There are also some pretty cool multimedia tools that come with the Edge and while I like to have those features they are strictly for spare time use. The Edge gives Lenovo exactly that an Edge over the pricier Apple Inc. (NASDAQ: AAPL) models and puts them on par with HP and definitely surpasses the tier 2 brands.
