Notebook PC manufacturers, such as Dell and HP have hoped that Microsoft’s upcoming operating system would reinvigorate corporate and consumer interest in their products. A new report suggests that may not be the case.
So it looks like the incentives high tech vendors were offering with free Windows 8 upgrades have not really worked. Customers are smarter than that and have held off purchases. Free Windows 8 upgrades would not be enough of incentive to get into a new ultrabook from you-name-it manufacturer.
Also if you look at the last CES show many of these same manufacturers were parading new form factors for Windows 8, not Windows 7. This gave customers a first hand glimpse of what was coming and most of them decided to wait.
The industry is in a holding pattern right now as companies get ready to launch their Windows 8 devices. I have gotten word from Acer, HP, Dell and Lenovo about their new products which should hit the market on or around the Windows 8 launch on Oct. 25th.
