In a time when productivity levels are measured down to each employee; you would think that a product that could push TV to a worker’s desktop would be a tough sell?
But Samsung Canada doesn’t think so and are releasing the Series 9 A950 27-inch LED monitor all in one that will sport a TV tuner. The monitor also has 3D active capability built in. Samsung believes many customers will be using this monitor with a notebook computer and have added the Smart Hub interface to the product. This interface called Allshare enables users to push content such as video, photos and MP3 files to multiple desktops around an office or small office/home office environment.
The 3D environment can also be converted to 2D with the push of a button it utilizes the much cheaper active shutter glasses.
According to Samsung Canada, the Series 9 monitor is meant to be a desktop unit plugged into a laptop with a keyboard and a mouse. The Series 9 has space for up to 7 devices enabling users to streamline work without the trouble of having to juggle various devices. This includes devices such as laptops, PCs, digital set-top box, DVD and Blu-ray players and gaming consoles can connect directly toHDTV display.
Samsung sees this product a solution for students and can be made available at campus bookstores that offer IT products and solutions. There are two HDMI ports, a USB port, Ethernet port for a home network. It currently does not feature built-in wireless, but you can put a dongle for wireless access inside the USB port.
SmartHub features content including 100s of apps for accessing social network sites such as Facebook and Twitter, you can check the latest news and stocks. It does not feature a Web browser or Skype but with a laptop users can access these two apps on the display.
LPrice for the Series 9 3D monitor with Allshare is $799 and will be available by mid-November. The Series 7 15 inch notebook from Samsung will follow it on the market. Pricing will be from $1,100 to $1,200 according to Samsung sources. The notebook will be powered by an Intel Core 7 chip and pre-loaded with Windows 7. It will have a LAN port that slides open and a DVD drive that is slot loaded and ejected via the software.
